SUE INSPIRES

This is an inspirational story about King Camp Gillette (January 5, 1855 – July 9,1932) an American businessman popularly known as the inventor of the safety razor, although several models were in existence before Gillette's design. Gillette's innovation was the thin, inexpensive, disposable blade of
stamped steel.

DETERMINED TO SUCCEED

Born in Fond du lac, Wisconsin in 1855,King Camp Gillette had the mindset to accomplish something great in life. Needing to earn money he left school early and worked as a travelling sales man. For years,he tried to improve on past inventions or come up with a product that people needed, but nothing ever came out of it.

By the age of 40,he became discourage, yet he never gave uo and remained determined to succeed. Then the following year in 1895, Gillette started working for Crown Cork &Seal Co,which was responsible for the crown caps on carbonated bottles. Gillette observed that the caps were thrown away after opening the bottle. He realised the value in establishing a business on a disposable product.

As he began to shave for work,he became irritated that his razor was dull and would no longer cut(razor blades needed continuous sharpening and were expensive). Gillette suddenly realised the potential in inventing an inexpensive disposable blade. He established a company and worked for five years trying to perfect it. Gillette finally improved on earlier designs and introduced an innovative high profit margin stamped steel blade.

In 1904 he received a patent for the idea of a double edged razor and renamed his business Gillette Safety Razor Company. He soon sold millions of his products and the company eventually became an international phenomenon.

It took King Gillette over 17 years to realize his dream, but he remained persistent and developed an attitude to succeed

Love Always

Sue!
